Nau mai, haere mai ki Te Wahi Tōpuni o Te Hoiere
Welcome to Pelorus Bridge Campground
Welcome to a spot where you can unwind and enjoy the natural beauty of Aotearoa. Situated between Whakatū (Nelson) and Wairau (Marlborough), our campground is surrounded by stunning native ngahere (forest) and offers a peaceful place to rest or explore. Ngāti Kuia, the first people of Te Tauihu, were successful in its bid for the Pelorus Bridge Campground in late 2023 and have since become operators of this site. It was their tīpuna, Matua Hautere, who was brought to this place by the taniwha Kaikaiāwaro and it was the people of Matua Hautere, Ngāti Kuia, who settled the land here in Te Hoiere.
Facilities and Features
- Campsites: We have a range of powered and non-powered sites for tents, caravans, and motorhomes, all set among the native ngahere for a natural camping experience.
- Facilities: Our whare paku (toilets) and hot showers are clean and modern. We also have a communal kitchen and a horoi kākahu (laundry) area to make your stay more comfortable.
- Whānau-Friendly: There’s plenty of open space for tamariki (kids) to run around and explore. The awa (river) has safe spots for swimming, making it a great place for the whole whānau (family).
- Awa Fun: Te Hoiere ( the Pelorus river) is perfect for a swim or paddle. You can also bring a kayak or just relax on the riverbank.
- Walking Tracks: Several walking tracks start right from the campground, offering short walks or longer hīkoi (hikes) through the ngahere. You might see some native birds like tūī or kererū along the way.
