About this Opportunity

Tasman District Council is currently seeking expressions of interest for cadetship roles under the Te Aka Pūkenga programme, a collaborative initiative formed by ngā iwi o Te Tauihu and the three local Councils (Tasman, Nelson, Marlborough).

This programme is designed to create pathways that build skills and experience in environmental management, supporting ngā iwi o Te Tauihu and Councils to address future capacity needs.

There are up to three cadetships available across Te Tauihu (Tasman, Nelson, and Marlborough). Tasman District Council is recruiting for the Nelson and Tasman placements.

About the Role

As a cadet, you will:

Gain experience working with iwi, councils, Crown/government agencies, whānau, hapū, and iwi entities.

Develop knowledge and networks in alignment with the Taiao objectives of ngā iwi o Te Tauihu and Councils.

Participate in Taiao processes, including statutory processes and engagement mechanisms.

Assist with operational activities and special projects.

Build skills in tikanga Māori, mātauranga Māori, and Te Reo Māori (training will be provided).

This is a fixed-term, full-time role (40 hours per week) for 12–18 months, with flexibility considered for the right candidate.
